And in doing so, they had cast her out and left her an outsider from her own people. A family that had been subjugated to pony propaganda and brainwashed into adopting their loathsome ideologies. Perhaps she needed to start a family first, to show Discord just how much chaos she could nurture, only then would he consider her worthy. Maybe she had gotten everything backwards.
